![]() So if you played Max 1 you'll know what to do even moreso.ĭespite that Max Payne 2 is still a very polished and enjoyable game. Secondly, a lot of the action mirrors what you did the first time. Still, atleast it gives everyone a chance to feel fairly accomplished in completing the game. Max 1 was short but not this short, and I'm not a hardcore gamer. Unfortunately there are a few minor dissapointments: It only took me a couple of nights of average length sessions to finish the game on the obligatory default mode, thus though you can play again you're not as driven by a story you know the end too. There is much in common with the original game with some truly commendable new additions such as getting to briefly control Max's love interest Mona and not having to be irritated to death in more filmic serving dream sequences. The graphics are better (undoubtedly - 2 years is a long time!), the playability remains untampered and the story, in a more lively seedy underworld, is as gripping as the first.įor all the hubbub, it's fair to say though that Max 2 isn't a giant leap. ![]() Resultantly, this is one of the hottest PC titles as I write.įirstly, the good news: Max Payne is back, exactly as you knew him but progressed on from the original. The only real awaited FPS with a release date that didn't run away from you. ![]() Having played the original game earlier this year, I waited with baited breath (through the postal strikes!) for this sequel. "Unbelievably violent and distressingly short-but brilliantly atmospheric and just so cool to play that you'll forgive it. Here's hoping we meet up with Max again, soon. You could argue that the game won't last too long and that it's perhaps a little linear, but these are very mild grumbles about a game that's engrossing, addictive and completely unmissable. It's an even more cinematic spectacle than before, yet a very handy gameplay device. Bullet time is back, and the game does it far better than even Enter The Matrix could manage. The levels primarily rely on action, and each feels suitably sombre, in line with the tone of Max's adventure. At times, it's mildly annoying that there's so much story to get through, but there's a fantastic game underneath it all. And once more, the story is presented in a dark comic-book style with moody voiceovers and deeply atmospheric music. Yet it never really happened, meaning that Max Payne 2, like its predecessor, is a little bit unusual.Īt heart, the game is another over-the-shoulder actioner, with Payne once again in the midst of an intelligent, well-developed story replete with unpleasant turns.
